  • Camp Bernie Trip Information

    Dear 9th Grade Millennium Families:

I am writing to you about our first field trip, the 9th grade overnight to YMCA Camp Bernie located in Port Murray, New Jersey.

Every 9th grade student is new to Millennium and this trip serves a vital function of connecting everyone in their advisory and grade. Seniors often refer to the trip as one of their most important formative Millennium experiences.

Led by the camp’s Environmental Education Staff, students and their advisors will collaborate on team- and community-building activities. Students’ 9th grade advisors, Assistant Principal Robert Rhodes, and additional staff will accompany your child on this trip. For more information on Camp Bernie, you can visit their website at www.campbernieymca.org.

Our trip leaves school on Thursday, September 19th at 9:00 a.m., so students will need to arrive at school by 8:30 a.m. with their overnight travel clothes and bedding. Students will assemble in our Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) on the first floor and then board the buses. Arrival at Camp Bernie will allow for enough time to unpack and have lunch. All meals will be provided for students at the facility. We will be leaving Camp Bernie after lunch on Friday, September 20th and will return to Millennium around 3:00 p.m.

The total cost of this trip is $200.00 for each student which includes: all activities, lodging, meals, and transportation. Because of our commitment to enable every 9th grader to participate in this experience, students whose families cannot pay the full amount of $200 may pay an amount within their budgets, but we do ask you to contribute some amount to help with costs. Please submit payment by cash or check payable to Millennium High School with your student’s name on the check or envelope.

The following forms are included on our website: the first 2 must be turned in:
    · DOE Parent Consent Form for Overnight Trip
    · YMCA Camp Bernie Program Waiver
    · Packing List

Please return both completed permission forms to the main office OR your child’s advisor no later than Tuesday, September 17th. Hard copies will be available in advisory as well.

Please note: We cannot accept responsibility for lost or stolen items and there is no locked storage at Camp Bernieso please leave valuable items at home. Most importantly, the trip is a chance for students to spend time together. Students should not bring video games, iPads, et cetera as there is neither time nor place for them during this trip. Cell phones are permitted only for photo taking with express permission from staff. Both texting and making calls are prohibited and students will be asked to keep their phones secure and stored. To that end, students will not be calling home during the trip. In case of an emergency, a member of the Millennium staff will contact parents.

We know this will be a wonderful trip, and we hope all students will participate. Millennium graduates repeatedly tell us that this trip was the moment when they first met and got to know their best high school friends.

If you have any questions, please contact Assistant Principal Rhodes at: rrhodes@millenniumhs.org or 212-843-5301.

    Sincerely,

    Colin McEvoy
    Principal
