Common Questions About Admissions
1. How do I apply to Millennium High School?
The application process begins in early October of 8th grade by families with the help of their child's middle school counselor. All high school applications are submitted centrally through MySchools. Millennium High School cannot accept or process applications directly, either by email or in person.
Parents should use MySchools to explore high school options, and talk with their middle school counselor to decide which 12 programs to include on their application. Applying to 12 programs, all of which your child would be interested in attending, makes it more likely that they'll get an offer to a program of their choice!
Submit your high school application online with MySchools.
Note: If you have just moved to New York City or are applying from a private/parochial school, please contact a NYCPS Family Welcome Center for information on enrolling in the New York City Public Schools. Your current school counselor can support your application process.
2. What is the Admissions Code for Millennium High School?
Our admissions code is M25A.
3. When is the deadline for high school applications?
The application deadline is usually the first week in December, right after Thanksgiving Break. Please see the NYCPS High School Admissions Timeline for the exact date.
4. Does Millennium have a geographic priority for applicants?
NYC Public Schools High School Enrollment (HSE) has revised geographic priority, apportioning 75% of Millennium's incoming seats for Manhattan residents and 25% citywide with equal consideration for students from all 5 boroughs.
5. What is the selection criteria for admission to Millennium High School?
NYC Public Schools ranks students based on their grades in the four core subjects. Students' highest grades in English, math, social studies, and science will be used. For more information, see NYC Public Schools Screened Admissions.
*Attendance and standardized test scores are no longer taken into consideration for admissions, just grades and rank in class.
6. How will rankings of students be managed?
All rankings will be managed centrally by NYC Public Schools. Students matched to Millennium typically come from Group 1. See the NYC Public Schools Screened Admissions page.
7. What about students with IEPs?
Students with IEPs are also matched to Millennium through the NYC Public Schools Screened Admissions process.
8. How many seats are expected for students entering in 2026?
For students entering Millennium in September 2026, we anticipate offering 160 seats for incoming freshmen.
For rising sophomores, there may be some seat availability (to be confirmed at a later time) as we anticipate some current freshmen will be transferring to a specialized high school as well as some families possibly leaving the NYC school system at the end of the current school year.
9. Should I submit my child’s report card or transcript?
It is not necessary to send your report card or transcript to Millennium, as all ranking will be centrally managed by NYC Public Schools.
For students currently attending a New York City Public School, documentation is already on central record and can be accessed by the school.
For students applying from a private or parochial school, or entering the NYC Public Schools system for the first time, please ask your counselor for support in submitting documentation.
10. Do I need to take an entrance examination or write an essay?
No. We do not require students to take an entrance exam or write an essay as part of the admissions process.
11. Do I need to make an appointment for an interview?
No. Interviews are not a factor in our admissions criteria.
12. Should I submit a teacher recommendation?

13. May I visit the school before listing Millennium on my application?
Each fall, Millennium offers 6 virtual tours and 2 open houses that host over 2500 total visitors. Both types of visits offer comprehensive information about what the school offers and is like for students. The virtual tours are typically scheduled on Wednesdays in the late afternoon. Our in-person Open Houses are usually on Thursdays in the early evening.
You must register in advance to attend. Registration information for in-person and virtual school visits will be posted in mid-September.
